Rant ahead: I’m an opinionated cuss about guns. Turn back now if you think this will piss you off.
Right now, the House democrats (lowercase intentional) are having a sit-in to try and force a vote on gun control.
Two days ago, four gun policy measures failed to move forward in the Senate. Today the dems are demanding action on gun control with a sit-in/filibuster as a result of a shooting spree in in Orlando, Florida, less than two weeks ago. Amendments filed by the dems address “…background checks of prospective gun buyers and the sale of guns and explosives to people on terrorist watch lists.”
While that sounds good, I’m not convinced what the dems want is so simple, or that it really is about terrorists or gun control; I’m convinced they’re going to repeal the second amendment.
Government has been slowly getting bigger and more bloated, and encroaching more and more into our personal lives. If they succeed in taking away our rights to own guns, what’s next? Will they erode women’s voting rights?
I grew up on a farm in a small town; my dad and brothers owned guns. Yes, there were GUNS IN THE HOUSE. My dad and brothers were hunters – and before someone gets bent out of shape about that, let me tell you, that what they bagged wasn’t stuffed as a trophy. It was food, meat in the freezer.
And despite the number of guns in the house (and there were quite a few), no one in my family ever thought to drive into town and shoot up the bar. No one. It never crossed their minds. My family all knew how to shoot and they handled the guns responsibly.
Guns weren’t a bad thing, they still aren’t. Yes, there are morons out there who buy guns for less than honorable intentions, like shooting up nightclubs, but don’t punish EVERYONE. Not everyone is an irresponsible gun owner. If politicians can’t understand that, it’s time to vote their asses out of office.
