I’ve been chomping at the bit the last few days wanting to share this, and now I finally can.
I’ve posted blogs saying I wanted to make a career change. I did neglect to tell you what; my goal is to be a Technical Writer, plan B is to be an eLearning Developer.
Well, it happened. It honest to gosh really for truly real happened. Last week, I got a job offer to join a production team creating online training materials.
I had to wait to say anything until my boss and the managers at the office knew. Technically, my boss still doesn’t know. Last Friday, he had to leave town for a family emergency and isn’t scheduled to return until next Tuesday. The boss’ boss knows and I’d bet a dollar he sent a text to my boss or left him a voicemail.
Yesterday, two lead managers in the office were notified and it was then announced to the rest of the office. We had a meeting to determine who I’d be training on what. It’s funny; no one has asked what I’ll be doing, though two people did ask if I had another job lined up.
My new work environment will be a production environment, entirely different than my current job. And no, this job isn’t a tech writer, but my job title falls under the tech writer umbrella. The title is less significant, as this job is a ginormous step forward. Yes, there’s also a bump in pay, but the job has potential to lead to so much more opportunity and that’s priceless.
I don’t care if it sounds corny, I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for being chosen. As crazy as it may seem, I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders. Not that I’m going to start slacking – hardly, the real work, correction, the real fun begins in two weeks. My last day at this job is November 16; I start onboarding for the new job on November 17.
Monster goal for 2016 accomplished. Happy dance commencing.
