Last week I posted the story about an Ohio family whose AWESOME Halloween yard decorations were causing controversy because of its proximity to an elementary school down the street.
I was sad to find out the Barrett family did take those decorations down. You can read more about this travesty here.
When asked if they will put up any other Halloween decorations, here’s their answer:
“I don’t think we even want to do anything. We don’t even want to put up a pumpkin or any of what some people would think are typical Halloween decorations. That’s not the way that we want to express it,” she said. “I think, by us decorating what maybe some people think that we should would be almost caving in, and this is not a caving in thing. This is a safety thing for our family.”
A safety thing? They can’t even put up Halloween decorations for fear of their safety? WHAT. THE. FUCK.
If this were my house, I’d be lawyering up and hiring security to keep people off my lawn. I would fight tooth and nail for my freedom of expression. We still live in the United States last I checked.
Do you think these same whiners would complain if the Barrett family put up a nativity scene for Christmas? Probably not. Yet if one person dared complain about a nativity scene, saying it offends their religious sensibilities, everyone would up in arms - the person who dared make the complaint would most likely be threatened and no doubt the ACLU would be involved. And of course, someone would create a hashtag. Does #NativityScenesMatter work for you?
I’m not partial to nativity scenes, I find them a flagrant display of religiosity, but will I complain to the media about that display? No. No, I won’t. Maybe I should start.
Don’t sanitize the glorious holiday of Halloween because it offends you. TOO FUCKING BAD THAT IT OFFENDS YOU. It’s the time of year of screams, chills and things that go bump in the night.
This political correctness bullshit has gone too far. Leave the Barrett family alone; leave our holiday alone.
I’m very tempted to add a new category to my blog, but I don’t know if I should call it “Get Over Yourselves” or “Lighten Up People;” “Eyeroll” works nicely too.
WOIO in Cleveland, Ohio, reported about homeowners who put up an AWESOME Halloween display in their front yard. There are FAKE bodies hanging from the trees, one body is impaled on a pole – sure, it might offend someone. Too damn bad. Believe it or not, some people are offended by nativity scenes at Christmas, but you don’t see protests about that.
One of their reporters Tweeted the image below:
Read about this fiasco for yourself here:
Last I checked, we live in America and we have this thing called freedom of expression. Have you seen any new movies lately? How many of them were slasher/paranormal flicks? Watch the evening news? How many shootings or terrorist attacks do you see on a daily basis? Too damn many.
LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP PEOPLE – leave the homeowners alone and let them enjoy Halloween the way they want to.
